Magic:   Mild and gently commanding, said to be a “persuasion” herb. Used in combination with other herbs, for example, roses, and apple blossoms it forms a powerful love spell. It is a favorite of ‘nice’ spirits. Offers protection and helps with psychic powers. Marshmallow is a protective and cleansing herb. Burning marshmallow cleanses an area, indoors or out or steep the leaves and flowers in oil and use the oil to anoint yourself when you feel the need to be protected from demons or spells cast against you.

If you are journeying in the astral and wish some extra protection, use before you enter your trance. Marshmallow is also used for love and fertility spells and is suitable for handfastings or to enhance sex magick. Medicinal: Infuse the root as a tea for insomnia and coughs. Both leaves and roots can be used for dry hands, sunburn and dry hair. Cures inflammation, ulceration of the stomach and small intestine. Relieves sore throat, and pain from cystitis. Use an infusion of the leaves as a gargle. Use an infusion of the root for coughs, diarrhea, and insomnia. The pulverized roots can also be used as a drawing and healing poultice, which are applied warm to the body.  A decoction for dry hands can be made as follow: Soak 25 g of chopped root in 150ml cold water for 24hrs. Strain well. Add 1 tablespoon of this decoction to 2 tablespoons of ground almonds, 1 teaspoon of milk, and also 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar. Blend well. Add a few drops of lavender oil to this mixture.

Medicinal Preparation:

  • Herbal leaves or flowers: 1 tsp per cup of boiling water. Allow to infuse for 10 min. Strain and drink.
  • Herbal powders: 1 tsp per cup of boiling water
  • Seeds, bark, roots, stems, berries: 20 gr per 500ml of boiling water. Strain and drink.
