Medicinal: Nutrients: Sea kelp is a natural source of vitamins A, B1, B2, C, D and E, as well as minerals including zinc, iodine, magnesium, iron, potassium, copper and calcium. Weight loss: Iodine is a trace mineral vital for the operation of the thyroid gland which plays an important part in body development and metabolism. Anti-ageing: The iodine content of kelp also appears to have other benefits. A 2008 study showed that the form of iodine in kelp effectively removed free radicals Hair growth . Avoid taking kelp supplements if you have a thyroid disorder. It may worsen your condition. If you have skin problems, you should avoid kelp supplements, which may cause skin outbreaks resembling acne. According to the American Cancer Society, some seaweed supplements contain elevated levels of sodium. For this reason, avoid taking kelp if you have high blood pressure or heart failure.
Medicinal Preparation:
- Herbal leaves or flowers: 1 tsp per cup of boiling water. Allow to infuse for 10 min. Strain and drink.
- Herbal powders: 1 tsp per cup of boiling water
- Seeds, bark, roots, stems, berries: 20 gr per 500ml of boiling water. Strain and drink.
